Among the 33 cashew nut export markets for Vietnam, the United States is currently the largest and most important market, playing a key role in consuming Vietnam’s cashew nut exports.
According to the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s cashew nut export turnover increased by 18.7% compared to the same period last year, reaching 1.94 billion USD in the first half of 2024. Out of 33 cashew nut export markets, the United States is the largest market with 93,105 tons, up 24% compared to the same period last year, accounting for 26% of Vietnam’s total cashew nut exports.
Besides the United States, other major import markets for Vietnamese cashew nuts, each importing over 10,000 tons, include China with 65,837 tons, an increase of 63% compared to the same period last year; the Netherlands with 29,981 tons, an increase of 13%; Germany with 11,814 tons, an increase of 40%; and the UAE with 10,161 tons, an increase of 37%.
In the ASEAN region, Vietnam exported 1,723 tons of cashew nuts to the Philippines, up 9% compared to the same period last year; 563 tons to Singapore, up 4%; and 4,705 tons to Thailand, up 2%.
In terms of export value, the top three markets for cashew nut exports in the first half of 2024 were the United States with 505 million USD, an increase of 16% compared to the same period last year; China with 362 million USD, an increase of 39%; and the Netherlands with 168 million USD, an increase of 7%. The total value of cashew nut exports to these three markets reached 1.03 billion USD, accounting for 53% of Vietnam’s total export value for this commodity.
Regarding prices, according to data from the General Department of Customs, cashew nuts exported to the Hong Kong market (China) had the highest price at 7,986 USD/ton, followed by Israel with 7,007 USD/ton. These are two out of the 33 cashew nut export markets of Vietnam with prices exceeding 7,000 USD/ton.
In the 6,000 USD price range, Vietnam exported cashew nuts to Taiwan (China) with an average price of 6,892 USD/ton, Egypt with 6,843 USD/ton, Kuwait with 6,255 USD/ton, Iraq with 6,203 USD/ton, India with 6,069 USD/ton, and Pakistan with 6,063 USD/ton.
Italy is the market with the lowest average export price for cashew nuts at 3,673 USD/ton, followed by the Philippines with 4,314 USD/ton, and New Zealand with 4,823 USD/ton.
